"Puzzled Kitty" study
5" x 7"
ink and watercolor
on archival hotpress paper
The ink lines were done a great speed, before my cat moved--he looked at me as if to say "what, AGAIN?!" Those of you who have seen my many images of Merlin in my Flickr album, here http://www.flickr.com/photos/cathy-johnson/, will recognize that look!
Amazing how the quick watercolor washes give the image volume and form. This one was also done as a demo for my upcoming North Light book.

I love kitty portraits! Nice.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Vickie! I've had plenty of models over the years...
ReplyDeleteLovely, I'm back at work on 100 cats, still have a few to finish before I post.
ReplyDeleteI'll be looking forward to it, Lyn!
ReplyDeleteYou totally caught THAT LOOK, Kate. Animals can really communicate through their body language, can't they?
ReplyDeleteSome just won't tolerate being stared at. Our old dog realized early on that the cat that plagued her naps hated to be stared at, so she would chase the cat under the couch and then lie down and stare...(growling under couch)...and stare(growling rising to falsetto)...and stare...until the cat ran from under the couch and out the door.
And the old dog smiled and took another nap.
