For many years one or the other of them was always in my car, so that I would always have something inspiring to read wherever I was. I learned so much from them, and was overjoyed when I found you on facebook and was able to continue learning from you.Melissa Fischerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15617837463419485494noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7708111215873269960.post-21137753058916463682015-01-05T18:18:41.549-06:002015-01-05T18:18:41.549-06:00Thank you so much! Anyone not involved in publishing may not realize how many book publishers and imprints have gone out of business or been swallowed by conglomerates. The quality of printing is definitely now what it used to be, and so many books are forced into a mold. I don't enjoy it as I used to...the the Sierra Club books were MARVELOUS.

(And yes about laying people off and editors, etc., having to wear a variety of hats!)

If I didn't teach online I'd be hard put to make a living now.Kate (Cathy Johnson)https://www.blogger.com/profile/03296053923338246127noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7708111215873269960.post-56585027341702215442014-12-16T12:00:44.148-06:002014-12-16T12:00:44.148-06:00Yes, I agree Kate. Today, it's hard to make a living from a production stand point. Almost all the jobs paging books have been moved to India and the publishers are cutting every corner to save money. My poor editors are overwhelmed with work because they keep laying people off. I'm sad to hear that Sierra Club is also dissapearing.Richard Sheppardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09494596390059317306noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7708111215873269960.post-85719164850851244692014-12-15T20:32:25.971-06:002014-12-15T20:32:25.971-06:00I agree, art books just need to be the real thing!...I agree, art books just need to be the real thing! When I started freelancing as an indexer 16 years ago I could hardly keep up with the job offers. These days I have much more time on my hands (and less money in my pocket). While many work colleagues have been laid off, I don't see books completely going away.....although I agree that one day we will need scribes!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03112821666312283177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7708111215873269960.post-81823818570845806482014-12-15T18:11:00.953-06:002014-12-15T18:11:00.953-06:00I know, Rita!
